I was promoted just over 2 years ago from a Senior Engineer to the Team leader. I was given a 5% uplift but that was erroded 2 months later to 0 as everyone else got a 5% inflation raise which I did then qualify for due to my recent promotion. I have asked for the raise but been told its very unlikely. My next planned move is to demand a demotion to my old job but on my current salary. I think they are getting my extra responsibilty for free.
Any advice?

Asking for a demotion in which there is no benefit to the team is unlikely to be received well.

Getting a promotion with no effective pay increase is an issue. I would continue to challenge this or get a different job elsewhere if you can get paid better.

I mean it sounds like you have support but it is not where it counts. Even if they gave you a promotion pay bump, it would be 2 years late.

And it might be just advancing what they would otherwise give you as an inflation adjustment like they did before. It’s an issue of trust.

Usually, promotions mean at least a 10% raise in your base pay, plus your allowances and bonus change when you go from engineer to team lead. You can ask your manager about your current grade pay range. HR often tries to keep employees in the middle so they can adjust raises as needed. Typically, inflation-based raises apply to all employees unless you are an under perfomer or have a bad relation with line manager, which seems odd in your situation. If none of these are making sense to you, its time to start looking outside.

When do the usual compensation discussions happen? I think what you can do is make a case for yourself and schedule a specific cadence with your manager to ask about compensation. In this presentation bring forward all your contributions and the ask.

Sounds like its time to find a company that appreciates your worth

I absolutely agree with you. I would ask for the demotion, there is no reason for you to take on all that extra responsibility. If they say no, I would start looking for something else.

How badly do you want to be unemployed?

A promotion looks really good on your resume. That isn't nothing.

So back in July I went out for a new position at my small company that was rapidly expanding (Account Manager). Was notified that I didn't get the full promotion but was told instead that I was still moving up and was going to be Customer Service/Account Manager Support. The new Account Manager had no customer service experience within our niche industry. I instead had to help help him with all customer service issues.

I feel like I am being taken advantage of. ADVISE APPRECIATED.

Curious what’s a fair salary in MA? Was just told that there is likely not going to be a chance for a raise during my upcoming performance review due to my salary already being “above average for the industry” based on my employer’s questionable research. I’ve been with the company 8.5 years & am the only one in my role, which they can’t operate without. I execute tasks from two investment advisors and two financial planners - they make the decisions of what should happen & I make it happen.

I'm new to EY and consulting in general. Does anyone know what is the average salary hike for promotion from Senior to Manager and for Seniors in non-promotion year?

I'm in finance/tech FPA, looking to go back to the defense industry for a 25% increase in TC. But wanted to see if I should leverage the new salary with current company to see if they'll match.

Background: got a promotion at current company that didn't come with sufficient increase . After stating my case I was told it would be evaluated next October, which is what prompted the initial job search.

Current TC 103K [88/15], offer 125k base [+discretionary bonus].

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

AWS vs Cloudflare BDR roles

AWS lowballed but I negotiated to match Cloudflare. Cloudflare offers more equity but AWS has a higher base.

I love Cloudflare. The people are great but it’s an engineering culture and the sales team isn’t as well shaped up and I can’t go for a promotion until at least 18 months of tenure. I am an investor in the company and think of them super highly. I’ve already got half a years SDR experience and AWS promotes quicker.

AWS has prestige but is it worth it?

I had a great review and a 5.5% raise and a great bonus at my company. But I also got a new Director and a peer manager of mine left the company, so I will be absorbing her team. In addition, my director said I will be receiving 'deep delegation' from them. I don't mind more work, but deep delegation is a new term I've never heard. What does that mean lol?

My husband just received a job offer on an opportunity he is really excited about. It would be great for his career and they are giving the 15% jump in base he asked for, however they won’t share what the target bonus amount would be. It’s an executive director position, so I would assume it’s a decent target bonus, but without that in writing it could honestly be a gift basket at the end of the year. Is it a red flag for them to not share this? His total comp could be less at this new job…
