You should do it. Accelerate your career!
Yeah! I’m confident if I put my mind to it, I’ll get up to speed quickly.
Unpopular opinion (it seems).
Do it if you feel ready. If you don't, there is not much worse than getting into a role that you are not yet ready for while you could have killed it with another year at precious level
Personally, at 3 YOE, I think it will be challenging. But you do you.
Yep, fair enough. I know it’s going to be a steep climb if I do make the jump. Just evaluating if I have the mental stamina for it.
Rising Star
One of my friends did. He is about to hit partner at 32. Would highly suggest you do it
Thank you D1!
Go through the process, but don't be too surprised if they try to downlevel the conversation back to SA/SC level.
Good point! We’ll see how it goes :)
Try it, but be honest with yourself. If you are going to end up managing people with more experience and knowledge than you who are also type A people and have been there longer than you, you're going to face a lot of resentment and likely back stabbing.
Lmao 😂 passed the litmus test 😏
Neither do most folks I’ve seen promoted. In fact, this factors in the least.
Nice to hear that!
This just happened to me. The MD said I would first start by managing the work stream and move into 1-2 people from there. However, I have managed 1-2 people before but not on every single project.
Nice, okay not too bad. Good luck in your new role!
Just want to say - all the best and do well in your interviews!
Thank you! I’m going to give it my best!☺️
As you’re going through the interview process, you might consider asking about the support system at the firm as you make the leap, learning the new system and way of doing things, networking in the firm, etc. Of course, you can come across as confident as you must to get the job but think it’ll show maturity to bring up the leap to manager at 3 YOE and how they’ll set you up to succeed rather than throwing you at the deep end of the pool because they’re short on managers.
For sure! I think out loud during interviews and am genuinely curious about what their expectations are going to be, plus the resources available within the org. It’s pretty intimidating tbh but I’m going to keep calm and get through with it.
Wow manager at 3 years. That would be one hell of a jump
Haven’t bagged it yet! ☺️ I was just approached and wanted to share with the bowl to see if anyone had similar experiences
You must be a tall white man!
No Negative Nancy, I’m a woman of color.
Definitely go for the interview and see if you like the team, how you might fit there, and where they see you in terms of the seniority. I started my consulting career as a junior at Capgemini early last year after finishing grad school, got promoted to senior in this year and then a big 4 firm approached me. I wasn’t sure that I wanted to jump to another firm so soon but did the interviews anyway, and I just loved the team members and the partner that I talked to! I have previously about 4 YOE in other sectors (a bit all over the place if I’m honest), which my old firm sort of converted to 1 year of relevant experience. The big 4 firm thinks I’m possibly ready for a manager role, in the end we settled on SC but at the very end of that grade. So now I’m working towards the manager promotion at the big 4 later next year. I could’ve tried harder to convince them I’m ready for the manager role but given my limited experience in the sector and language barrier (I’m in Europe and don’t speak the local language), I thought it’s good to just give myself some time for adjustment.
