Sorry to hear! That’s unprofessional. I can top it though- they rearranged my call various times only to tell me that they’d given the role to someone else that morning. Then proceeded to interview me “just in case”.
Good God! WTF is wrong with people?!
Damn, were you waiting in the lobby?
Nah, it was a remote conference. But had to get to a quiet place to take it.
OP, I sincerely hope that when they reach out to you again, you already have a new job. And when they do reach out, let them know politely and professionally, that you’re hesitant to interview there again because this situation left you unsure about how reliable they are throughout the interview process. But wish them well. In fact, send a thank you note for their time and best wishes to them and their new hire.
Just when you decide it’s no longer possible to be more aghast at industry humanity.
Agency?
Not comfortable saying right now. I will say it wasn't an agency, it was in-house.
Ugh. Boo.
That happened to me a few months ago. It's the worst feeling. But it made me think back on those times when I got an offer on the spot. I'm sure there were people they had to circle back with and say the same thing to. Better to know upfront than interview and be 👻ed.
I had that happen with back to back to back calls. First no showed, got a call from HR right before the second to tell me they went with someone else, but forgot to tell the third person who was interviewing me — I had to tell him I wasn’t being considered any longer.
Yeah, that third person felt awful when I told him.
Crappo.
