When you are "let go" apply for your state's unemployment insurance. Follow the guidelines of the program. Many times, a person who is terminated for reasons not related to misconduct or violations of employer rules can be approved for unemployment benefits.
Good luck and be persistent.
I was laid off in July three days before my 58th birthday! I was there almost 7 years! I was told “budget cuts”. I was working remotely and this job was my life, I loved what I did wholeheartedly. I too thought this was my last job, boy was I wrong!! I was able to collect unemployment thankfully, but finding a job seemed impossible especially at my age but after 200+ applications and only two interviews I landed a great position. There is something better out there waiting for you. Don’t give up it’s coming soon. 😊
I'm 59, believe me, I get it. I've had several interviews that I thought went well but never got a call back. I'm sure it's my age.
I had 2 more this week, I'm hoping to hear something, but if not I guess I keep trying.
I just feel so defeated.
You have to meet some qualifications to get unemployment but I recommend you apply adap.

I’m really sorry you’re going through this—it’s incredibly frustrating, especially when it wasn’t your fault. Yes, you should be eligible for unemployment since you’re being let go through no fault of your own. It’s normal to feel upset, but you’re taking the right steps by applying. Hang in there; something better will come your way!
You should be eligible for unemployment
It happened to me too
I'm so sorry that you are dealing with this situation. Have you checked on other positions within the same company? Most times when a company downsizes, they are still simultaneously hiring. You would think they would implement a hiring freeze during that time, but they typically don't. I would check into the same location your are currently at and any other locations they may have.
I'm sorry about this and I agree you should try to find out about unemployment as soon as possible and be persistent!
I’m not sure if each state varies, for my state there was no requirement. I applied for unemployment the following week after I got laid off. I have to file a weekly unemployment claim and show that I’m job searching to continue getting unemployment. I know how you feel. It’ll be a roller coaster but hang in there. Anticipate 6 mo before finding another job, that’s the average time. I’m still searching 3 months in since I got laid off
Of course.
People have differences at work. Companies have to make excuses for choosing one person who works how they like it but doesn't even tell the employees that they'll loose one of two. They make every excuse....other than we can't blame your work because you so well. I guess I sure feel what you are saying. They are the ones with money problems it appears. My company eased into the business they managed, were grumpy about out profession, and they had disgrantlements over an email. Get over tej email. We want to learn to do it right. Truly. I was mocked for being kindly. That's sarcasm.
I completely understand. I have had not one but 3 jobs eliminated in the past several years. The last one and this new one both require that I be credentialed and it takes one to two months during which I am not paid. My only advice, not knowing what it is that you do is try to think outside of the box with your particular skill set. I am planning to take some classes and alter my career path but trying to do what I do in the meantime. I am also looking at different types of jobs that pay well that can use my skills. It is crazy because I used to have my pick of jobs.
Been there and right before construction was to be completed on my new house! I got through it and you will also! And yes, you will be able to collect unemployment. I hope they gave you a bit of severance.
I’m sorry this happened to you, but be persistent and you’ll find something even better. You should be able to get unemployment if you were laid off.
sounds like what they did to me, but my experience was much worse.
I'm sorry you had to go through that...
I think it depends what state you're in but if you're in California yes you can collect unemployment if you are let go. I'll pray for you!!
Make sure you apply for unemployment and let them tell you but, don’t apply for unemployment until you are laid off. Don’t listen to others because each person’s situation is different. Also, when applying for jobs, think outside of the box. What I mean by this is, don’t just apply just for the job you are working in now, What other skills do you have? Do research and compare your skills and see what else it will give you and you will be surprised. I don’t work in the same field I was laid off in. I had to do this and it was the best thing I could have done. Good luck!!
After 21 years of service , I was laid of in July due to budget cuts. As the other writer stated, get a letter from your employer regarding your layoff to have on hand for proof if needed. It varies state to state but I believe you can not apply for unemployment until your last day of work. The job search may be trying but I want to encourage you to stay positive and trust that the Lord has a better job in store for you. During your in-between phase, do something that you haven’t had time to do. Pick up a new hobby. Learn a new skillset. Do something that brings you joy because anger only robs you of your peace and time.
Thanks I needed and appreciate your positivity
You should follow up with your local unemployment office to get this question answered. In the mean time, depending on your role in Healthcare, I would try focusing on connecting with as many headhunters as possible.
You surely can go and apply for unemployment
