Sure you can take it off, but if you aren’t also getting the work done that is expected of you, don’t expect a big raise / bonus (assuming you aren’t an intern anymore…haven’t heard of interns with PTO)
Yea I’m not an intern anymore
@VicePresident 1 - have the firms considered fractional staff for the busy season? There are former Big Firm auditors and tax professionals who do not want FTE and would be excellent as staff for busy season.
PwC has this but it runs into the same problem as viewing staff as plug-and-play. If this guy takes every Friday off, it’s not as easy as just subbing in a random person to fill the 8hrs. It’s not efficient.
Others have pointed out the unlikeliness of this getting approved, but I do find the evolution of the questions a little odd. If I read the comments right, you have not actually gone through a busy season yet - and your starting position was every Friday off. Then it seemed to evolve into well isn't a day every few weeks OK and why are people so against relaxing. I really think you need to get one under your belt so you can understand why they are what they are. I'm not saying there aren't teams that stay hours later than they need to every night because they dick around and take super long meals - but there is a certain amount of work to get done and a limited time to get it done in. This has nothing to do with being supportive or against team members taking time for themselves. If somebody is legitimately burning out, any decent team will try to introduce some flexibility so that they can do something that recharges them or whatever (this doesn't necessarily mean they will work less, but maybe they don't have to come in for a day or they take a day off and work Sunday or extra time on Saturdays or something). If you're legitimately efficient and keep ahead of your work you'll still be able to relax to some extent too. Some engagements are just legitimately less work and maybe you can take a day off here and there. All of this is to say context matters and until you understand what you're actually dealing with, asking for time off like this will rub a lot of people who have a different perspective the wrong way even if you legitimately are a hard worker and don't mind putting in the hours as you claim.
You should have taken the pto in the non busy season this makes zero sense.
