1. Location?
2. Ads Sales or Cloud Sales?
3. What companies have you sold to before?
In general, Google AE OTE comp could range from $200K TC (lower end AE) to $500K TC, and maybe more if you exceed targets. But I wouldn’t have expectations for $1M TC as an AE at Google.
I’m ex-Google and the teams were selling *much* more than ppc. They need to be well versed in selling display, video, programmatic, etc. Selling beyond just digital or SEM teams at customers, and going for big TV budgets. Teams (and AEs as the sales leads) have annual quotas that add up to $100M+. They don’t pay commissions, but rather a multiple of target bonus based on how well the team sells relative to targets.
An SAE making under 200k OTE either tells me your at a terrible company that works hard to avoid paying its sales reps, or you are not an SAE. How much in Ad spend have you brought in on an avg year? What is your current take rate? Compare those two #s with others in your field and you should be able to figure out what your OTE should be if you move
We have multiple lead sources and yes I could be at terrible company it has high turnover. Can you message me, I’d love to get your insight.
AEs at Google are more tenured AMs, unless you're table about the AEs in GCP. That's a different story.
Most likely you will go for an AM role at Google.
The answer to, "Would it be hard to get [Any role] at [any FAANG]?" is always yes. Even if you rock the interview, the competition is tough. Because of brand equity, huge numbers of people want to join, not because they want to do the work or for the culture, but just because FAANG. Weeding though the ba- fits and not-qualifieds is a tough process, and it oftentimes prevents us from finding the best match for a role. I'd be a liar to say a great deal of luck and timing didn't play into my own admission to the FAANG club.
All this isn't to dissuade you, but just to set realistic expectations.
