I think some of the in-house spots that have created “in-house agencies” (think Allstate or WOW or PepsiCo) would have those opportunities still.
Go freelance and build a brand for yourselves.
In most cases, no. That’s because agency’s are set up to require a lot of people to accomplish the job. That’s how they can charge clients more. In house is set up to get the job done as economically as possible.
Aw that’s sad because we’re best friends. :(
Yeah you can def get hired as a team.
I’m happy. Work with good people, get paid well, and get to produce lots of high budget work. The work is more vanilla than I’d like it to be, but you can’t win em all.
That said, I think the experience varies a lot. It’s not the best place for juniors, but if you’re experienced in making/leading work and have good conceptual chops, it’s a good place to be.
Great question!
I’m in house (art director) and don’t really have a 100% dedicated partner. Most of the time I do work with one specific copywriter, but overall I kind of bop around onto different projects and can be partnered with anyone from the designers, to other art directors, or it could be any of our copywriters. I’m sure other in-house shops work in a more traditional manner, this is just my experience at this specific place.
