I work on a global team, and there’s always someone awake sending messages. I feel guilty if I don’t respond so my day keeps stretching longer and longer. What's the best way to set boundaries in this situation?

Work your timezone + allot maybe one hour later to respond to global messages that would otherwise delay things by a whole day (e.g. 9-5 + 9-10pm). No one will die from 5pm-9pm while you have a life I promise.

You can add a message to your email signature as well as any communication tools you use - “my work hours are x-y, any messages sent outside of that window will be responded to during my work hour in the order they were received ” ….something along those lines.

Don’t check your emails etc after those hours. And perhaps silence any of that on your phone

Change teams notifications in the app to “calls only” when you’re ready to wrap up your day.

You need to tell people your hours and not respond outside of those hours.

I had a guy on the other side of the world helping on a project once who kept sending me meeting invites at 2/3am for 5/6am the same day, then he would complain I didn't join. I had to be firm and go back to my original message with boundaries - I reiterated to him my hours and that if he wanted me to join a call, he needed to coordinate with me at lease 24 hours in advance so I could reasonably see and respond to an invite. This wasn't the only things he struggled to follow directions on, though.

I had a baby almost a year ago. I should start a 529 account for my child but I am originally from France which also makes her a French citizen and she could easily go to college in France for not much money. It’s pretty much free there, I have 0 Student loan debt. With that in mind, a 529 would not be super helpful if we go that route. Should I consider other options? Do you have suggestions? Thanks so much!
