I’ve been in the SE role for over a 1 year now, coming directly out of undergraduate. My company’s pay is low compared to what I’ve seen at other companies but I do enjoy the work and the organization. When is it appropriate to ask for a raise and how long should I stay in the role before I start looking at other companies?

Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I was promised a promotion, then was told I wasn’t getting promoted, started applying to other places, fought for it and ended up getting promoted and a raise. I was just offered a job at another agency for $15k higher than the raise I just got.
