If a company asked you to come interview in person with 24 hours notice after they have had your availability for not a small amount of time — what would you do? I already made my decisions but curious what others thoughts are.

Depends how far away it is. Like under an hour, not a big deal. Like you need to fly there, thats a big deal.

If you just applied, the hiring manager may already have a sequence of interviews and you’re getting slotted in at the last minute.

like

Didn’t just apply and this was a second round

It proposed depends on the distance to the interview site and how they are communicating this. If they are mean&rude, and acting entitled, then I will probably pass. But if they are doing this, because there is mistake or unorganized HR staff, etc., then I would understand and go do the interview as long as the distance is reasonable.

What is your decision??

What do you see as most attractive exit ops in Europe? In the US, everything is about Tech/FAANG, but it seems way less attractive in Europe (less strategic roles, comp. seems much lower than in the US, very centralized around London/Dublin).

I posted this somewhere else before I remembered that I am in this bowl :) so, I changed jobs 6-7 months ago and I am realizing it is not a good fit. Leadership seem to not want to hear the truth so people tell them what they want to hear and if you don’t middle management gets pissed at you. I am seriously thinking about looking somewhere else. My question is how do you answer the “why are you looking to leave” question without bad mouthing your current company?

If you start as a Program Manager, how/when do you begin to advise people as a people lead? I’ve heard Program Managers are not people leads. I started lead a team of 3 about a month ago at my current job and don’t want to lose leadership experience but have been told my YOE would map to a Program Manager level at Google.

Looking for advice! I was approved to work remotely but my salary will decrease 10%. I received two raises so the decrease brings me down to my previous salary. I was told that it’s due to the cost of labor in the area.

I’ve been with my company for 8+ yrs, I love my manager and the work I do (engagement, recognition, & wellness programs) but I feel like I’m limiting myself since I have the experience, an HRM degree, and SHRM-CP credentials.

Should I apply for roles outside the company?

Has anyone had roommates who got sick with Covid and they managed to not catch it from them? If so, what precautions did you take? Outside counsel has been prepping company witnesses for a trial in August. It is my subject area so I am supervising outside counsel. I did not, however, choose the counsel. Higher ups love the firm… I do not want to micromanage, but I have genuine concerns about outside counsel’s ability to try this case. Trials are rare, and I just don’t think these guys have actually tried many cases. Cont. below…

Has anyone been given an offer or received further movement on their application after a month or more from your last interview? Not sure if it’s odd that the company reached out after my final round interview to have a call and “discuss next steps” but then they haven’t responded to me since I’ve followed up (I’ve poked 3 times every 11 days or so but I plan to leave it be now until they respond).

Can anyone help me wrap my head around this post Series C start-up equity offer? It’s an IP director position, the the base is $170 with 10% bonus (both lower than I was expecting). There’s also an equity component: 0.15% of current fully diluted equity. This equates to about 30000 shares at a strike price of $2. They also indicate the preferred stock price is $6 and preferred stock equity is $188k (whatever that means). They are in the middle of a new financing and valuation round.

When I moved in-house a year ago as a BigLaw mid-level, I took a 45% pay cut, far more than I was comfortable with (although I was fine with a 20-30% cut). I took the job because it was a great role and I was focused on making the jump in house and developing the skills I wanted, which required me moving away from my firm practice area. Now that my year-end review is coming up, how do I ask my company for a significant pay raise (not just a 2-5% inflation-matching raise)?

Big law specialist with an offer to be the CFO and GC of a 250M AUM hedge fund. All in comp would probably be ~$300k, so about $100k less than where I would be in big law (including bonus). Potential to get involved in the business side, but most likely more of a back office role (I would also be the only legal hire - main goal would be cutting outside legal cost and streamlining processes). Does this sound like an attractive offer? What exit options would I have?

I’m in-house at a small company (60 people), started right out of law school about 5 years ago. We had a legal team of 5 then. Everyone has left and we just hired a new GC. I went from $70k to $100k a little over a year ago. I am expecting an offer from a firm doing business law work but think this might be an opportunity to go to my current employer and ask for a significant raise, with new offer in hand. Any thoughts or advice going into this?

For in-house counsel roles, does firm prestige matter? For example, would the fact that an applicant is from Sullivan & Cromwell vs, say, White & Case matter at all, or is it much more about experience/interview? Does it matter as much as law school credentials? Assuming a mid-level corporate associate seeking to go in-house.
