Was the number a range? Was it for the same exact role in the same exact geographical area?
The number is indeed a range, I’m referring my pay with the highest pay. I am in a HCOL but the posting was in a tier 2/3 city
55% less than the top of the range?
Top range is a non starter. Go middle.
How do you compare to the low end?
Is it a big range?
Moving to a role with high ceiling means you can keep getting raises without needing a promotion. This is a good thing.
How can you be 55% less than the top but 25% above the bottom? Can you just share your current salary and the range?
Like 35K to 100K, a huge range (OP making 45K)
OP, you are the reason why companies don’t like displaying ranges. Is your value in the market really 55% more than current comp?
If you are someone with buckets of experience you may get an offer near the top, but if you are paid what you are now, likelihood of you being deserving of the top of the band is low..
No problem with salary transparency. Recently hired two Ds in my team in NY where it’s visible. One hired mid and the other near the top if the band.
We never asked current comp but offers were so wide based on candidates experience and competency. The candidate at the top will be ready to take my role in a few years.
If your market value is near the top, be upfront about your expectations early and if you are as strong in the interviews as you think that will be reflected in the offer.
You are probably overdue a conversation with your current employer if you really are paid 50% under your market value
