If I want to cash out my pension at KPMG and have been with the firm for 3 years, how much will I get?

What’s the process of rolling over? What if I want the cash now to buy a second home?

funny

I could be totally wrong but I think pension account works like an IRA account from tax point of view. So if you rollover to traditional IRA account then no penalty or Tax.

like

I mean you can see the pension statement in you account and it will show you the vested balance. You do few adds/subtracts and it will show how much is it right now. If you wanna cash it, I think they will hold about 35%ish for all those taxes and penalties. If you rollover to an IRA then you get the whole thing. Based on my estimate, you should have about 10K to 12K in pension account after three years.

I would call the help desk and ask them these question or you can keep it with KPMG (I assume).

For Rollover, I would assume, like IRA rollover you open new account and ask for distribution from pension to IRA account. Tell the pension group that you are rolling over to IRA account so they don’t withhold any taxes.

Isn’t there a 10% penalty still with an IRA no matter what when cashing out? My goal is to use the pension amount to buy a second home

I’m 29 years old

How does the pension work? Do all levels build one?

I know directors and partners have a better one but this basic starts from staff one. If you are college hire, KPMG would put 7K (or maybe 5K) into your account when you start and it fully vests in 3 years.

If you roll the money over, you might also be able to take a loan from your IRA without penalty and repay it over time... not 100% on the specifics but I know sometimes pensions allow for borrowing specifically to purchase a house

There likely is a early withdrawal penalty. Also, you will be taxed a penalty by IRS and since it will become income could bump you up to even more taxes. Basically not a good strategy for house buying....

This doesn’t seem like a smart financial decision. Best not to dip into retirement when you can’t fund the house with just your savings...
