Really look at local regulations. Your business can be shut down in an instant once the city or county you’re in decides not to permit Airbnb.

Socal is NOT very AirBNB friendly. Many cities have outright banned AirBNB, and the few that allow them have pretty strict restrictions, and tenant laws are NOT in your favor in California in general. What makes you want to do it in SoCal?
- what’s your budget?
- where are you leaning from a personal preference?

Agree with others, $500-$800 in S Cal buys a small condo away from the beach. Most condos won’t allow STRs even if the city does. In San Diego for $1.5M you can probably find an old 800sf beach house walkable to the beach.
Near the beach or touristy spots - anaheim/fullerton is near Disneyland so I would think getting airbnbs in those area would make more sense
