You’ll have that conversation with HR when it happens.
I’ve been fired twice. Sometimes it’s a blessing in disguise. Puts everything into perspective.
Make sure you document your conversation with HR and don’t sign anything until you read it. Depending on how long you’ve been with the company you might be able to negotiate.
Big thing is health insurance. Ask them if they can sponsor health insurance for another six months post leave or until you find a job. Cobra is so expensive

Being fired from my last job was the best thing that ever happened to me.

It depends. It depends.
Depends how nice they are
Yes and no
Chief
It absolutely can. It usually won’t, but that’s not the same thing as “no”.
Public Sector considerations: if you have a clearance or are due for reinvestigation, you’d now have to answer questions about the dismissal.
Depends on the company. Acn probably not so much in terms of package
Fired? Or laid off/ let go? Big difference of them telling you to resign, and them forcibly firing you.
Also- severance is not legally mandated in the US. So it is up to the company. Usually companies don’t give it. In luxurious cases, you will find yourself lucky. You can alternatively go online today and file for unemployment- and you should! You paid into that insurance for a reason. (I think even that- you won’t be eligible for if you were truly fired for misconduct.)
They don’t have to give you severance if it’s due to performance

They don’t “have to” give you severance at all, just like you don’t have to give notice, unless there’s a contract that says otherwise.
Having said that, the usual convention in the consulting industry is that you get severance even if you’re fired for performance reasons, but not if you’re fired for ethical issues (what’s usually called “for cause” termination).

C'mon... dish... what are you going to be fired for?
