This is not a buyout because it’s contingent on disbursement of monthly salary (if you agree to this you do not have cash in hand, so anything can happen) and clearly states that the agency may ELIMINATE YOUR JOB BEFORE SEPTEMBER.

In these times when it takes over a year to find jobs it’s not the best move. They still have to give you a package when they get rid of you and will be required to pay unemployment

Not only that but some Democratic senator pointed out today that Trump doesn’t actually have any money for all these buy outs so the most likely outcome is he will stuff anyone who tries to take him up on the buy out offer. It’s all a grift.

You can leave or you can stay, just know that a lot more changes will come for the remaining. I know several who are past retirement mark but are just coasting along doing bare minimum because it’s too easy. Take the money and go.

The issues are two. One working from home, they are canceling that. If they want their job, all they have to do is come to work in the office. The other isse is many department or agencies are being canceled. Yes congress control the funding, the executive branch determine what agencies it needs or wants. Not congress.

If we think it's hard to find a job now, I can't imagine what it will look like if 10 percent of the federal workforce enters the market all at once... Alternatively the economic impacts of hundreds of thousands of workers being RIFed isn't fun to think about either.
SC1, that seems harsh. To label an entire set of people that way seems to be excessive. Perhaps you are having a bad day/week/month or year. Maybe you are right about some of them. No, I haven’t read it but that’s about how it went down. It happened in the blink of an eye, ppl didn’t see it coming.
I work as a contractor for the federal government and this directly affects me. Contractors actually do most of the work while most feds just sit and approve contracts. Short term this hurts me, but I understand long term it saves the taxpayers money. I’ll be fine and just switch back to working for the private sector like most feds ought to do.
Director2, have you seen what is happening in the private sector? Jobs are not exactly plentiful. But glad to see you have such a positive, take one for the country attitude. Very patriotic.

Why do you refer to it as “threatening?” It’s not forcing anyone to accept it and plenty are actually debating or have accepted it gladly. If you weren’t happy in your position or looking for a change it’s actually a pretty good deal. Nine months of pay and benefits, while accruing annual and sick leave, all while looking for or working another or just hanging out with family or taking a long needed vacation or break.
