That's not that bad
Rising Star
Ohhh noooooo, TRUST ME. It’s that bad lol we were going at it on our zoom call, and this was me trying to be nice afterwards. I was literally like “what is it that you’re not understanding” cause she kept giving me attitude.
Then she was like “I’ll just do it myself” and rolled her eyes. I smiled and said “perfect :) let me know if there is anything else!” And hung up.
I sent this nice message with a loom video of my partner after our call so that our client saw she’s a dummie.
Rising Star
Who you asking to watch a video here? You client? Is the video of a zoom call between you and the client’s poc?
It’s odd that they mentioned twice that they won’t see the video and ended the message saying what they expect. So I would send the outcome of your meeting with the poc.

✔️✔️
You embarrassed yourself dawg
Your interaction with someone you work with is what didn’t come off emotionless. It came off very emotional.
Chief
I can’t really imagine insisting someone watch a video if I can bill for giving them a summary that they prefer instead, but maybe I’m missing important context.
I definitely wouldn’t engage in any yelling match so I guess in that sense I’d “back down” even if I didn’t change my approach.
Exactly. Why make it a big deal? It’s less work for you and still get paid so…
Chief
You were 100 percent in the wrong here.
Visual Storyteller
OP Stop rationalizing yourself as in the right here—take responsibility for your actions like an adult, learn something from your mistake and apply it to do better in the future. You are acting like a 12 year old. ~A 24 year old.
Pro
OP, if it were me, I would have happily summarized the video with my POV. We work in client services.
Rising Star
I also summarized in a doc right after! She is just acting very difficult for literally no reason lol she thinks she understands paid social tbh, and wants me to do thing outside of my scope (CLEARLY outlined by me in my contract)
They sound like a jerk but I'm not sure that's the approach I would take with a client.
Chief
Sounds like the failure here is you did not secure stakeholder buy-in before you pursued a new course of action (initial agreement).
Your recommendation may be sound but if they don’t align to it at the top, you are going to find yourself swimming away from shore.
Rising Star
Someone is acting childish.
Rising Star
Haha maybe, maybe not! I don’t think so, but ultimately if we don’t like working together, we can both terminate🙏🏽 the glory of freelance haha
Rising Star
This seems tone deaf, tbh. You seem to have gotten too caught up in proving you’re right because your ego was bruised.
Rising Star
It’s not about whether you want to help them though. You’re not going to get your messages across (including ones about your boundaries) by being passive aggressive, difficult, and desperate to prove a point. That immediately shuts people down.
The clients have politely asked you to send a summary in the messages. Your job is to give them what they want. Looks like they could fire you instead. It's not hard to find freelancers.
Rising Star
Def was not polite, but I can see why you think that based on the screenshots!✔️ and yes, might be best to part ways for suree
Pro
You need to summarize and provide strategic recs every time you provide content. Assume they hired you because they don't have time to do your job.
I bet the first of your “six figures” is a 1 😂
I wonder how some of you folks have professional jobs sometimes.
Rising Star
😖😖
This is the content I'm here for
Rising Star
I wanted to start this because I hardly ever see this side of client interactions on this app haha and anyone who runs a business or does freelance has definitely worked with some crazy clients 😖
Rising Star
Just send them what they want, Jeremy! 😂
Rising Star
Sir yessir lmaoo🤣
Visual Storyteller
Also OP watch it a bit with the exclamation points and check marks. Grow up a little
Rising Star
I don’t think there is anything unprofessional with using occasional check mark emojis ✔️ in slack. Maybe through email, yes!
Idk y’all I’m on OPs side on this one
Rising Star
💯 agree with you haha early on, I would accept some crazy treatment from clients. Lost sleep, had anxiety, etc because I needed the business. Now, I can be a bit more careful with who I decide to partner with for sure
Rising Star
I’ve gotten into yelling matches before because of a misunderstood fact pattern or code section. But this just sounds like really unclear expectations on deliverables and responsibilities. Best to remove yourself from the equation if it doesn’t get better.
Rising Star
True! Last week they also requested I do something outside of my scope, and politely reminded them of my contract but I would be happy to help them regardless (with no extra pay!). Def some misunderstandings on deliverables on both our parts
I get it, I’ve been in Ad ops and clients are dumb. But asking them to watch a video you made is unreasonable. Instead putting a summary with your recommendations and clear reasoning why is usually 100% more effective.
This was handled unprofessionally in my opinion and if I was the Ad agency account lead on this I would probably let you know and have to apologize on your behalf. I get it, you’re a freelancer but you’re representing the agency to this client so this shouldn’t have been handled like this on your end.
Pro
LMAO, if they see this, you’re toast OP. Don’t be an idiot.
Visual Storyteller
Nah they're saying if your client sees that you're sharing confidential conversations of your unprofessional screw up on a social media app — because lots of people in our industry use this app, you're gonna get it. I don't know the details of your NDA but things could get nasty really quick if your client sees this — I'm talking legal action.
Chief
Can you color code the parties? It looks like one thing and I can’t tell who is who.
Rising Star
Negligent, careless, bungling -- yep we used it right
