AA is the obvious choice since Delta closed its DFW hub years ago (which was also smaller than AA’s operation). Otherwise, you’re condemned to a ton of connections. While that’s nice for status, it means you’ll be getting up earlier and home later consistently if you’re nearly always forced into a connection when your destination isn’t a Delta hub.
Southwest may be an option if you live close to Love Field, with the obvious downsides of a mostly domestic operation and a lack of international alliances for mileage earning and redemption.

DFW’s not that bad OP, as long as you’re out of terminal D or E. A, B, and C are all pretty crowded due to being AA exclusive, whereas D is much bigger due to being the international terminal, and E is mostly other domestic airlines so it’s less hectic.
And anecdotally, I like DFW over DAL as the TSA waits have always been longer at DAL than DFW for me in the past. Not sure why though
American no question.
Delta is the better airline, but better does not mean it’s a good airline - they’re just the least bad. All the American airlines (Delta, AA, UA, Southwest, JetBlue, etc) are trash and domestic flying is not enjoyable. If you’re flying international then none of these airlines have competitive premium products so you shouldn’t choose to fly any of them compared to their international counterparts.
The point should be to fly the airline that provides you the fastest connectivity / most direct routes so you have to spend the least amount of time in any of their terrible planes getting horrible service. 5 hours of misery > 8 hours of slightly less misery any day.

You’re unfortunately stuck with AA. You can basically fly anywhere in the US without a connection, out of DFW. Always go with the dominant player in your home town, makes getting to the client and getting back home a lot easier.
Thank you, this is helpful!

Delta and it’s not even close like sheesh have you flown on either airline before bc I am in shock that this is even a debate

Yeah this is a stupid take by SC1. Unless you want to connect and waste 3 hours every time you fly, American or southwest are your only options.
SouthWest is an option too. Lovefield airport is closer to many places within Dallas. Also it is Headquarters of SouthWest so you get direct flights almost everywhere.
United/Delta aren’t the best option from DFW. I believe you’d be better off with AA in case you don’t want to do Southwest. I agree that AA is useful for getting miles for international travel.
Take AA. Direct flights beat most anything. Less issues with getting home and chances for IROPS. As much as I love DL, it’s not worth the connection time when you live in an AA hub.

IMHO anyone over AA, if the scheduling/routing works. “Based here, best here” just isn’t true anymore.
Fortunately my last few projects were taking me to either DL or UA hubs—LAX, ORD, EWR, so I had that choice, but my latest project was in SNA so I had to go back to AA as I couldn’t make connecting itins work.
(No WN for me as I live in FW, though I’ve always thought very highly of them)

LUV is their stock ticker and yes SW was already taken when they refiled, I believe M1 is correct it was some African carrier that had it. I mean, I definitely reference F9 and B6, but it’s just a thing if you are very into flying and having a common set of references via IATA codes.

American. You can go anywhere in world from DFW.
You can usually status match too. Do American and then just status match to Delta. I love having status with more than one airline because it gives you a lot of flexibility if you fly to other places than your home city and you get to take advantage of some different perks too.

Please explain status match
