Unless it’s adult entertainment, I doubt anyone would bat an eye
Employers shouldn’t judge on where you have worked. They will look at your skills and what you can do. If you’re looking to leave; you can always spin it as you wanted the experience in managing deals, but want to focus on an industry you’re passionate about.
Some thoughts:
It could be a good growth opportunity for you because you will face less competition from
candidates who are not comfortable working in such industries. One example is Kat Cole who started her career at Hooters. She faced less competition because not everyone wants to work there so she had more opportunities to prove herself, move up in the company and then become president of Cinnabon.
I also don’t think employers care much about the industry as long as you have relevant skills. The team and leadership on your team regardless of industry is important so make sure you have a good idea who you’d be working with. If you’re not learning from your boss, leave and find a new one.
It’s also important to stay true to yourself: if you are not comfortable working in industries that don’t align with your values/beliefs it’s perfectly fine to decline the opportunity and keep looking.
Like the other commenter have said, adult entertainment I’d stay away from. Cannabis, cigarettes, MLMs, gambling not much of a risk.
Probably depends how long you plan on staying in the role. Is the role something that would tie you deeper into that industry in the future? Are you good with that? Or is it a role that would crossover well to similar / higher financial roles in different industries?
Also depends on your comfort with those industries. I wouldn’t want to be in any of those 3 specifically - but I’ve applied to financial roles in cannabis industry and in abortion rights organizations in the past, so there’s certainly ‘controversial’ industries I would personally move to.
