No. I make more than that in salary, and it’s not enough with young kids. Continue living off your salary and invest the $250k annually for some years until the passive cash flows + inflation adjusted $250k is enough. Once you stop working for some time, it will be hard to get a high paying job again if you need it.
Dang when we were raising our kids (now 24 & 25) as a family of 4 we were making 40k a year. Even now we make less than 100k….if I could get 250k a year…I could live off half of that every year and invest the rest and live a great life!
Not only would I quit immediately, I’d spend the next year of my life actively discouraging people from taking my old job (or any in that department).
@PM2 -- Wow! Are such clauses really legal?! NDA clauses saying you can't share trade secrets or client/otherwise confidental info is one thing, but a clause saying you can't complain about the company? That is just wrong! 🤯
Volunteer full time.
I would call in rich, then find an exchange rate friendly European country to retire to while awaiting the arrival of our robot overlords.
With $250k guaranteed? Of course I’d quit and do what I liked. I’d finally have time to do things that I’m really good at, and make money on an easy side hustle. Easy. No brainer.
Some of these people didn’t need to have kids or don’t like their families. Or they’ve made their choice and live in the cookie cutter McMansion life - and that’s why they think they “need” to make that money.
Hard yes!
Is that tax free?
I know a lot of people who say they’d keep working and I don’t get it at all. There are so many things I care about. My kids. My dogs. Home renovations. Photography. Playing sports. Learning a new instrument. I’d do so many things before I even think about engineering
I’d be out before anyone can blink. There are so many things I want to do with my life that I don’t have time/money for now.
I love my job and would do it even in I wasn't paid, as long as I had another source of income. Work doesn't have to be "toil." It can be really life-giving if you have a job that lights you up in a healthy environment. Especially if you're working for a cause you believe in. That's why I love copywriting for nonprofits. I don't get up in the morning for the sake of my own wallet. I get up in the morning for the sake of my clients' missions.
I would immediately quit. Some of you are delusional. 250k for the rest of your life is a lot of money. I feel sad for folks who would keep working. Get real.
I make about 250k now at 39 years old. I would absolutely quit working if I would be able to replace my income. Working is inhumane, trading the best years of your life to make a company a bunch of money doesn't sound interesting to me. I actually enjoy the job I have and people I work with, but there is so much more I would rather do with that time, like cruising around town with my wife in my 64 corvette.
In a heartbeat I would quit my job, sell the house and buy a renovated Greyhound bus and travel the Continental US.
Can I come?
I would do it for a garunteed 50k a year. im tired of being chained to a desk
A lot of people in here must not know what it’s like to make it work on a $50k a year salary.
100%
Pro
Quit!! I'd travel, volunteer, read, etc. more than I currently do! And be able to pay for home renovations out-of-pocket, yes please!
Retire? probably not. Transition into something else? probably. We all need something to do. Can only play so much golf
I think I'd work the first year so I could use the $250k to finally afford a house 💀 but after that, quit 100%. I have 100s of hobbies and passions that would keep me busy - and maybe even make a little side money - and $250k would be plenty for me and my husband to live off of.
I would keep working, but on the things I enjoy doing. Like making handcrafted leather goods, small batch soaps, baking, training in and teaching self-defense, and such. I have a lot of hobbies that I enjoy doing much more than my current job.
I would quit my job so fast it would make your head spin.
Year 1: Work one more year and invest that first payment into a higher yielding investment.
Year 2: Quit and decompress through travels, hobbies, and much needed bonding time with a social life.
Year 3: Look into jobs I would enjoy learning or part-time gigs in industries that make me feel happy. (Don't want my mind to get mushy. Retirement can be mushy- inducing). And never feel the pressure to keep any job I truly don't want to be in.
Also not tell a SOUL that I somehow have this jackpot pension set up.
I would quit my job and work on personal projects centered around inventing things.
