If you won the $1 billion Powerball, are you still working next week? I'd be taking at least a year off. Maybe some pro bono or volunteer work in the future.

The firm would never hear from me again.

I’d work, but certainly not as a lawyer.

The second after I endorse the winnings check, I am putting in my two weeks.

I would absolutely still work, but would shift to a public interest type job, with more manageable hours.

I don't think I could suddenly just stop working. I don't do well when I'm unemployed. I need the daily structure a job allows for.

like

100% gone. My time would be way more valuable than a 300k salary. Probably earned that in interest if I just let it sit in the bank. Why would anyone continue to work. Buy a couple properties in a good location, invest, and let the money work for you.

I’m working for the next month, albeit phoning it in. You’d have more due diligence than an M&A.

You’d need to retain lawyers and accountants to help you secretly collect your winnings, and need to put together a plan for how to exit your old life and enter a new one. You’d need a series of new fake lucrative jobs to justify your new travel and expenses. I’d probably try to get the wealth management firm to hire me as a consultant on paper for a year.

The last thing you would do is quit the day after the drawing. Even if they don’t reveal the winner, they reveal where the ticket was sold. You’d have people coming out of the woodwork to get a piece of you.

Over 20 yrs practicing I would be so so so gone! Buy a new Searay and enjoy!!!

Yes. But I’ll be handing off my cases from a Greek island.

like

Yeah. I have a remote time now actually. I’ve thought about it but the west coast to Greece time change is not ideal. I’m definitely taking a month or so to work from South America in the near future though!

like

Yes. And I'm going to take notes of who in my personal life I am not going to give my new phone number and address to and I work on sorting out the remaining affairs of my old life.

No way

I would absolutely never work again lol

I would start my own business with that kind of money- so that I never have to work for someone else again..

1/3 Question on tax treatment of nonpriority unsecured claims converted into long-term note decreased total liabilities under Chapter 11. An accrual based C-Corp taxpayer completed a Chapter 11 reorganization and converted a total of $1M A/P to suppliers into a $410K LT note (a $590K liability reduction). Should we view this $590K as the Sec. 108(a)(1)(A) excludable income? After reading through IRS Pub 4681, I think it makes sense to view the $590 as "Reduced Price After Purchase", but not

How do you judge a low ball offer with how the market is changing? Earlier this year, you would look at comps and say this is the value. Now with rates going up and people pulling out, how do you justify the value? (View point from the buyers end)

I have been applying for internships the last few months. Got few first round interviews but never concluded further in the application stage. Lots of rejections because I am not from a target university.

Still looking for a summer internship within a Quant Fund, Hedge Fund or Trading firm (HFT,Quant or Systematic). Anyone with tips?

Bit of background. I am a Physics and Math undergrad with previous experience in Capital Markets and Research.

Thanks in advance!

Layoffs. Most big firms say they're sitting on a conservative pile of cash - which I believe is true - but work will obviously not return to pre-COVID levels in the short term, probably not even in the medium term. Are Biglaw layoffs coming?

Does anyone know how litigation finance works on the plaintiff side? If someone wanted to bring a lawsuit against their former employer would a general contingency arrangement with a plaintiff’s firm make sense? About to turn down a job offer that would nearly double my salary after speaking to several former associates of the firm and hearing some not so great things.
