Thought this was interesting. Across 160 teams of researchers, just about all failed to make good life outcome predictions on things like GPA, evictions, layoffs, and others. Data followed 4.5k families across 15 years, with 13k features (varied over time). Haven't looked at it directly yet, but will be turning the docs and data inside out... In the meantime, authors claim this as showing the limits of ML. Oh, and it's published in PNAS, so you know there's some big publication energy there.

I have an initial recruiter phone interview with Square Thursday. Is it it just a phone call or is it a video call and they didn’t specify. If it’s a video call what’s the dress code like? I’m coming from consulting so all my interviews were in suits. Any tips to get past the recruiter phone screen?

Yes, apply for unemployment. Sorry to hear this happened.
Sorry to hear this! If you were fired, then yes, you would be able to claim unemployment
Sorry, OP. I was also blindsided recently (not by Deloitte - i didnt update my tag here after I left D). Apply for unemployment and just use this time to job hunt.

You can claim unemployment but you may not have enough quarters of work credit or other time based prerequisites to qualify. Either way, you should still apply for UI benefits on your state website. Make sure it’s the legit website. It requires a lot of sensitive data and there’s been a lot of scam sites out there since pandemic.
Quality answer^ good luck OP
And so it begins
Insane. Is there anyone senior you could reach out to for advice ?
Was it your first job out of college?
No, I have a few years of experience

This is rare. What did you do or say? Was it a LAYOFF or Fired? Two very different things
Clearly he's saying he is fired.
That’s ridiculous why would they fire without reason?
Was it less than 90days? If so no real reason needs to be done if after 90days they need to provide a reason and give you an opportunity to improve with no pip I would talk to a lawyer… did they provide you a package and did you sign anything?
Yeah this is wild after a few months. I know B4 are savages but there must be something else going on.
Yup it's definitely layoffs. I spoke with a few senior people at PwC recently and they mentioned the same thing happening.
For real? lol

Don’t think you can claim unemployment in most states without 6 months of work?
Why were you fired? Did they give you a reason? I am sorry for you. DM me for EY referral.
I feel like this is going to happen to me. Practice lead said “ if you were good, you wouldn’t have to worry about networking outside of practice to get a role”. But there’s a shortage of demand so I don’t get how that’s my fault? Is he worried I’d leave the practice or something. The bench is huge and im trying to cover my butt.

You must have pissed off the wrong person. Once you do the language you received on performance can be used for almost anything.
I think I did. That’s why trying to get off the bench quickly. If I get staffed could they let me go regardless? Or just wait till I’m on the bench to do it?
Two thoughts: 1. Who was the review from? Are they low level or overly kind in reviews were they may not have given you an accurate picture? 2. Did you do something else noticeable bad/harmful? Sorry to hear this. Does sound odd and having been in consulting for a long time, doesn't sound normal.
Yes, and I am asking who wrote the good review - what level were they at. One possibility is the feedback wasn't accurate.
You only get unemployment if you worked there for one year. Sorry this happened. Don't take it personally. Grieve for a week then just get back out there. You'll get an even better role now that you have this XP under your belt. Stay confident. Tony Robbins helped me with my mindset when I was at a low point. Manage your mind. Job 1.
Apply anyways as most states are 1 year total experience, not requiring same company*
I had exactly the same story in PwC as you yesterday. Joined pwc couple months ago in consulting field and got layoff yesterday without PIP. DM me if you want to discuss. (I have to verify this account using my friend’s work email, I don’t have hearts to DM)
Yeah service line? Also were you on a project?

That’s so weird. I’m at pwc and never heard of anything like this. Maybe try to take it up with someone who’s higher up? So sorry to hear this and best of luck
OP, were you a part of customer exp and marketing?
Are you in DAT?
