Yes. As part of one world depending on yours status you’ll be able to enter any lounge of the one world group. Why are you interested in adding status on American? Your status with British gives you access anytime you fly American anywhere.

Thanks! I travel international on BA a lot which is why I selected them but I'm finding it quite difficult to find award availability as opposed to American
Did you look at the new rules to get status on aa - might not be as easy as you think. A few other thoughts -
Inventory is supposed to be the same - see it on aa, should be available to BA
When you fly aa domestically, you get automatic lounge access plus access to flagship business lounge as a one world emerald - plus flagship check-in. You get none of these with AA status traveling domestically - and you have to buy a membership to the admirals club - generally people use the $450 Citibank card for that. I would really rethink this

Sorry, misread that.
I would say it depends. I really don’t know how OP flys most of the time. If they’re flying out of LGA or DFW, Flagship checkin and lounge aren’t really that helpful. It sounds like they were/are flying internationally which would give them access anyway.
As OP mentioned, it’s difficult to find saaver space to book with Avios. I would take that into consideration as well.
If you can’t get American on the Ba website, first check if you can on aa.com then phone the gold line with the flight details, I do this regularly and no issues
