I’m a data steward, no formal schooling all self taught since that’s most jobs these days. I need advice. Recently came into reality and things are not so chill anymore it’s pretty fweekin tough to find a job in this field. WTH am I supposed to do what has worked because I’m about to just door dash for the rest of my life.

You and many other displaced tech workers will be door dashing I'm afraid. It's a war zone out there. If I got laid off I think I'd just get out of tech all together and learn a new trade. It's diminishing returns in this field: more competition, lower pay, greater chance of layoffs. There won't be an uptick in hiring until the AI bubble pops, if that even happens.

Good luck. I home schooled for my certifications and I am in the same boat.

I'm in a similar boat and am thinking of moving on from tech, I don't know what jobs to look for, everyone wants experience in that field, so what field is a good transition from IT work?

I have a bachelors degree but it seems like more and more. You need a masters degree to get jobs in the field. You might have the skills, but when it comes down to choosing an applicant, they’re going to pick the one that has a little bit more going for them than the other people. A degree is peace of mind for the employer that you’re capable of that level of work.

I hear you. It’s tough out there right now.
I’ve been thinking it might be a good time to build something together instead of going it alone. Even a small team can make a big difference.
I do have an idea, but I’d rather not share it publicly. I’m open to discussing it over DM with open-minded people.
If that sounds interesting, feel free to reach out.

Im no data clerk so ymmv, but with a master's degree in Engineering, I have no trouble finding work. We love hiring people that are self taught but they have to be really "fweeking" good. We prefer those with degrees with a good structured foundation over someone that is self-taught. This is pretty much how all the companies I have worked for over the years have done their hiring even though they say they don't care about degrees.

So true. I wasn’t doing well in interviews when asked about AI. Once I started learning AI tools and mentioning in interviews I started doing better.

I've been thinking about how it can be hard to reach users to get feedback on early stage prototypes, concepts, demos, pitches, landing pages, tag lines, etc. What would you all think about a community for early stage founders where you can do a show-and-tell, get feedback from other founders, and give feedback? Thinking IRL dinners to start. Focused on b2c where the founder group would probably fit within your target audience. Do you have this problem and would this help you?

Should I leave my first permanent job as a team leader of 4 DPs in a FMCG business (only been there for 4 months) to join a huge Tech business for a 12months contract?

They offer me 60% more money than my permanent role. Circa 2000 dollars every month in my pocket

However, I am worried if I accept the tech role and I do not become permanent I will be looking again for a job in 12-24 months and my CV won't be showing a managerial position. Won't be showing any progress.

Career advice?

I'm a relatively junior data engineer (2yoe), the only other engineer (senior) that trained me left about a 6 months ago and I negotiated a nice raise for the extra responsibilities.

My performance reviews have been stellar, but my manager is starting to look to hire a senior to help me deliver projects as we do lack capacity right now.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Any opinions/tips?

Hi everyone, a question to the tech industry at large.

Why are people so hesitant to hire disabled candidates?

I am a visually impaired practitioner in South Africa, with 7 years of experience, and as soon as recruiters or business owners hear/read that I'm disabled, the conversation gets awkward and I never hear from them again.
