There are several sources for the market rare for salary range and average for different job titles and locations. You can even ask your manager which your version they use for setting their salary bands. (A friend was told his salary was 'market rate' according to a specific service, but when he looked at the same source discovered our boss was lying.) You can also look at job listings and see if positions you are qualified for list a salary range, use that to set your expectations, e.g. what can you get if you leave.
Before the meeting document everything you accomplished in the last year, try to get specific numbers if you can. E.g. XX% increase in traffic to the company site. Be prepared to say why you believe you deserve a raise and/or a bonus.
If it's possible, answer these questions, objectively:
1. Did you do what you were hired to do, or did you do more than what you were hired to do? 2. If social media KPIs went up, did sales/revenue? 3. Did you take on other products, tasks, etc.? 4. How much interaction/contribution do you bring to overall marketing strategy?
You can do the research from online sources and job postings to determine the salary range. In my experience, marketing positions are incredibly difficult to hammer down a "decent" salary. Depending on the company, a DMS/DMM position is offered between $40k-$120k.
And even when you have a narrowed range, or even a specific number, that can get balked at. For a recent interview, I researched the position, which was an "umbrella" type of marketing role, and creating a composite salary, overall it was $60k-$140k, but within the specific industry, $80k-$130k. The company was unprepared for that reality check, canceled the position and put out a slightly different one with a $50k-$60k range. It was disappointing on many levels.
