Product Management at a large bank vs Business Analytics/S&O for FAANG? Recently started in the former role, but have interview calls for the latter just come up in my mailbox. Similar comp when adjusted for the different job locations. Can anyone help me with the Pros and Cons please. I’m a product owner, would be happy to help within my experience. Lots of companies now use Agile framework. You need to be familiar with scaled agile framework. SAFe Certifications would help are Product manager and product owner. Furthermore, you can listen to Product school, product board podcasts. They also have webinars that you can attend for free. I think start from there, you’ll get a good foundation about Product management. Good luck!
I didn’t look at this list, but can say the general assembly one is hot garbage.
I agree with the comments posted here. Product Manager is my next career path. I’ve just landed a PT PM position with Tech Fleet. I’ll get the chance to lead and build products. Apprenticeships are available for PM, Product Strategy, UX Design, etc. You can be mentored, learn and build simultaneously. It’s also free. Check it out.
Product Management as both a professional area and a career path has been growing the past couple of decades. For one list of four contenders to consider for a certification, see: 4 Product Management Certifications that are Worth Your Time @ https://www.productplan.com/learn/product-management-certifications/
Of these four, I’m Pragmatic Institute certified. When I was working in the vendor community as a Product Manager I found their ‘Pragmatic Framework’ @ https://www.pragmaticinstitute.com/product/framework/ (see PDF download button) to be very useful when looking at a PM career and as an annual professional development exercise – where do I need to increase my knowledge next year? A PM can’t be an expert in all 37 areas, but reviewing which of the 37 your current position’s roles & responsibilities require competency in and which additional directions you might go in the upcoming year (sometimes hard to judge in a small, rapidly growing company) can indicate which boxes you need to improve your expertise in, whether it be through Pragmatic, one of the other vendors, your own research, or a mix thereof.
One not listed here is the SAFe Product Owner/Product Manager certification course @ https://scaledagile.com/training/safe-product-owner-product-manager/ I teach this one occasionally. This is a niche cert –if your organization is using the SAFe methodology for software development (doubtful in a small company, more probable in a large company) it will be highly useful.
