I want my kids to do whatever it is that they want to do but I would be lying if I said I didn't secretly hope that they choose something other than football. Its a great sport to watch don't get me wrong but it can be very dangerous and it does worry me a little bit. My brothers had so many concussions growing up playing in high school.
Forbidden for my kids. Too many risks of short-term and long-term injury when there are so many other sports without those risks.
Oh, I know this is like a forbidden statement and mindset to have in the state of Texas, the unofficial football capital of the world, but my kids will not be playing football. I thought the sport was stupid before we learned how harmful it is on the players. My kids can do soccer or baseball or track or something like that but that is it.
Conservative??
I think parents start their kids in tackle too early. My Dad played college football & insisted my brothers stick to flag football for much longer than the other kids. Also depends on the coaching and overall culture of the league, some take the risks much more seriously than others. I’m not from Texas but where I’m from there are controls to limit the amount of time they’re allowed to practice w/ tackling, weight limits, etc. My little brother plays high school football and has been lucky to avoid having injuries for the most part, and will continue playing in college. Honestly, if it weren’t for his success at it and scholarship offers I don’t know if my parents would have supported him doing it this long though.
As someone who played HS football in Texas- I will strongly forbid them from doing so. We were taught to “kiss face masks” thus head butting every play. Football won’t be a sport on the high school level in 25 years.
No football for our boys either. My husband played in high school and he is the main one against it. It is a sport built on aggression and the known side effects on their body and brain don’t seem worth it to us.
