It will probably be tough to pivot back because the market is so bad right now, but it doesn't mean that you shouldn't try! I say hang onto your current role while you're applying (and try reaching back out to your underwriter coworkers)
That’s great advice. I was worried that the market will be hard to transition back into.
The gap will be noticed but if the rest of your resume shows your IT experience and other key skills then they are able to look past it. I would really highlight that you are ready for this transition and that you are qualified.
Thanks!
They will always want to know about your gap; just be prepared to explain how this is not a problem. I would explain why you left the role previously and why you are returning now. I don't think it's a bad thing, why did you change roles back then?
At that time, I didn’t apply for the change in roles. There was a demand for someone with UW experience in the IT dpt and my managers recommended me for the job. I thought it was a great opportunity to learn a different side of the business but now that they no longer need that position, I’m looking to switch back.
I don’t think they will look at it as a good thing, but all hope isn’t lost. Just try to take what you’ve been doing and relate it back to UW in some way. Try to get yourself up to date and familiar again with the process again and make that case when you do talk to recruiters.
I think I understand our coverages better because it’s loaded in the system than our appetite. So this is great advice on relating it back.
