You can make the same amount in Federal dude. Nice vacations can't make up for time not spent at home.
@A, I respect your opinion. I was in government once and didn't have to work more than 35-40 hours a week with no stress and got paid decently. But I enjoy making more than 200k a year just in base salary and getting shit tons of miles and hotel points that I can use to fund exotic vacations for my wife and kids. I can take some long hours and verbal abuse from partners as an occupational hazard.

To each his own. I would have never made that much as quickly as I did on commercial side. At least where I was working in.
I'm interested in moving to federal for the work life balance. Do you have to take a pay cut if you switch from strategy?

I hear you OP. I love traveling generally and do that on my own time now, and I enjoy having a life outside the office. But I'm also grateful I spent my earlier years on that "climb." Lots of critical life lessons and prioritization!
