Bruh can’t figure this out but wants a company to hire him.
What would you tell them if you had literally anything else going on?
Dont overthink it, say you have an appointment and move on. And if pressed, it's a personal matter that you aren't going to share. And if they get all weird say you must take PTO, take PTO.
This is a valid concern to have. Not sure why people are so dismissive of it. I recently left EY and the interview process was insane. Like it’s not as easy as you just have to step out for 30 minutes once or twice and then magically you get a job offer, in this job market you will probably have to interview at a lot of different companies that all want many rounds of interviews. In total, I probably did like 50 interviews over a 6 month period before getting an offer, there’s just no good way to be out of office that often.
Yeah so either take PTO or say you can’t work because you have a doctors appointment or that you have to pick up someone from the airport or say you have maintenance coming to your house or say you have sick kids. And then work on the weekends to make up for the time you lost.
You absolutely can do this when you’re working at big 4. Your recruiter will also work around your schedule because they will check your availability. It’s actually blowing my mind that this is hard for people to do.
HI! I am a Director of Recruitment at Addison Group. We specialize in placing finance and accounting professionals and place quite a number of people coming out of Big 4. Try to be upfront with potential companies that you are still working and schedule as many meetings as you can for lunch hour , before and after work. Also, it is ok for you to ask them to condense interview processes into one day. That will allow you to meet several people at one time. You can then tell your employer that you need to take a PTO day or a Sick day. I hope this is helpful.
Tell them you’re going to see the doctor about a rash in an embarrassing location.
Lunch break
You’re cashing in the 1.5% increased value of the ESOP units….
I would probably not tell them you have an interview. Tell them you have a doctors appointment. Tell them you have a personal commitment. Tell them you don’t feel well. No is going to want to verify it if you say you have explosive diarrhea, for example
I did my appointments early AM, like 830-1030 etc and said I had a doctors appt. Or I’d use PTO
If you are looking for a job in industry accounting, all they care about is your public accounting experience (if the JD says mentions Big4 or public accounting multiple times, that is ALL they care about). It doesn't matter if you aren't a CPA or don't have any experience applying accounting standards to real life, complex high volume transaction environments or don't understand how to deal with data sets. Your public accounting experience is all they care about and all you need to do is mention that a few times.
Are you leaving accounting or BDO specifically?
Just say personal appointment
Block off your calendar
Doctor/dentist appointment. They don’t care as long as you come back to work 😂
I had an old senior who was house hunting at the same time and said he was viewing a house when actually interviewing.
