I’m looking for advice on how to tell my manager I’m interviewing for a PT job at another hospital within the same system. I just got back from maternity leave and really need the part-time hours. I’ve tried to talk to her at huddle, but nights have been so slammed lately that there’s no time. Since it’s an internal move, she'll find out soon anyway. Is it okay to just send a quick email to let her know?

It's always better to have that kind of convo in person. It keeps the manager from feeling blindsided and resentful. But if that isn't possible and you've made an honest effort to get in touch with them, so be it. Sending an email is better than having them find out from someone else.

Send a quick email first asking for a 1:1 meeting. If that doesn’t/can’t happen, refer back to you wanting that meeting and explain why. Absolutely better to come from you before someone else, but I’m sure there is also an understanding of how busy things can get. Also, assuming you have a decent relationship, if not, I wouldn’t say anything.

Hello all, I work full time as an RN at the VA. I’ve been looking for a side hustle to do on my own time. I would love to review cases such as prior authorization, records for 2nd opinions, etc. The positions that I come across generally require a commitment of at least 24 hrs which is not feasible. Anyone know of any opportunities?

Comforting others:
When someone tells me bad news regarding their health, I say everything I am supposed to say (I’m sorry to hear that, I’m here for you, etc) EXCEPT “everything is going to be ok”. Because I can’t guarantee that and I really don’t know if everything is going to be ok. Should I start saying this for the purposes of providing comfort only??
