I'm looking to move from Telecom to Gaming. I have some experience building indie games but the brunt of my experience is in backend systems. I'm hoping for a lateral move into an established name like Epic Games working on their backend. I realize there are only a handful of us in this fish bowl, but are there any of you that might have some advice for this?

Anyone have advice for advancing in your current role? My co-worker was hired in at manager level but somehow “proved” he was actually doing director level work and got a title promotion and salary increase in less than a year. I also went above and beyond my job as well (covering for him for a month while he was away on paternity leave) while taking on other projects outside of my job title and got zip—no raise or recognition. On the other hand, I have one more offer for Canada and the job is on 2 years contract basis with 80k CAD per annum where I have to sign 2 years agreement as well that I can’t back out once I get the offer. I manage 2 physician practices and one is extremely toxic. To the point the dr sides with staff even when I am trying to make corrective actions when patient care is in jeopardy. My leadership is aware and knows I am keeping my distance from them. Just doing the necessary work to keep them producing. How do you handle this? I’ve been doing autocad design for 5 years now, and though it’s cool, it’s not what I want to do with my life. How can I break out of this and into game design? I find creating stories, monsters, characters, levels, maps, etc infinitely more interesting than utilities underground.
