In-house all the way. I will never work for an agency again. I value my me-time too much for that. I've got several creative projects going on of my own, so making someone else rich or winning awards at an agency is not on my to-do list. My nights and weekends are spoken for. Hard pass on agency work.
Yes.
i’d try in house! The closest thing i can think of that still would allow you to art direct and not become solely a designer or marketer.
Is this the same across the board in advertising? I mean, late nights and weekends. (Question from someone who have spent most of their time in-house)
I’m not as familiar with Marketing but I can tell you that I literally got burned out by doing that much work for years. I used to be an interior designer at a design & architecture firm and pulling “all nighters” was expected as well as working late and hilariously named “Mandatory Saturdays”. 🤦🏼♀️
I became so sick and it took me at least a year to heal, no one could figure out what was wrong with me. Uhhhhh…it was literally adrenal failure from the stress of working too much.
I really hope you can find something that balances out your life more. It’s so important for everyone.
Just go in house for a bit then come back agency side
Op says theyre burnt out so changing the environment might help with that
Look at smaller, indie agencies, especially those in smaller markets.
I went from agency to in-house and never looked back.
Finding a company where you can put in exactly 40 hours a week and ending your day promptly at 5pm is tough but so incredible.
I've found that leadership teams made up of working moms (single or whose spouses also work full-time) are the people who take work/life balance and mental health most seriously.
