I’m resigning from my job (due to bad leadership/extreme micromanagement). I’m going to politely mention this when I tell my boss over video call. Do I also write this as reason for quitting in my official letter to boss and HR?

You will have to decide, but in my experience, don’t burn a bridge! What good will this do you? Will it change a thing for you or for the future? Probably not! If you are resigning, just do it politely and go! That way there’s no hard feelings if anyone calls them!

like

Honestly, nothing beneficial will happen if you tell them the truth. You run the risk of burning bridges & potential references, plus the soon to be former employer won't change based on your feedback.

like

I disagree. When I resigned from my job I told my boss and HR which poor ways of working drove me to the decision, respectfully. I didn’t belabor it. Not only did they thank me for sharing that information they rehired me later down the road and when they did they mentioned in my interview that those processes has since improved.

I think it’s all in how you do it. Be general, non specific and diplomatic.

like

Oh wow, that’s good to know!

I think it's best to smile and leave a blameless official letter. You may gain some self-satisfaction and relief by dumping on these people as you go out the door but it can come back in ways that you probably couldn't even think of right now. Not worth it.

like

You’re right. Thanks for pointing this out for me. I’ll leave it off the letter

Noooo - they don’t need your truth. If they were that sort of place, this would not have happened anyways.

like

I would not put it in the letter or mention to your boss unless they specifically ask you.

like

No don’t do it! I wrote a diplomatic generic resignation letter, although I quit with RAGE cause of my micromanaging from hell like devil supervisor. My supervisor immediately knew I was quitting cause of her, the senior leadership team tried to offer me the job back but I said no. If they can’t help you or try to see the damage of what that micromanager is doing, it’s time to move on.

like

Yes, honesty is the best policy. Pour your heart out. That will show em who is boss.

funny

Why? If it’s true, they will be butt hurt and May sabotage you. Why take that risk. There is no law that says you have to give a reason for resigning. You just have to give enough notice.

Tell them the truth but in a respectful way.

PARTNERS: two questions —1. If you see an associate has really low hours for the month, do you imagine them chillen on a beach somewhere or do you consider they probably spent most of their days sitting in front of the computer being “available”? 2. If you send an associate a random e-mail on a weekend like “Can you pull X and send to Y”, would you get annoyed if they responded saying they weren’t by a comp or would you consider it reasonable that they wouldn’t be by a comp on a weekend?

My manager scheduled a feedback conversation and I know it's bc I've made some noticeable mistakes lately due to moving too fast, not being able to focus, racing thoughts, etc. I'm seeing a therapist about whether I have ADHD and if so, what tx looks like; we started the intake process which will be continued in my 2nd appointment, which is after the feedback convo meeting. Is it worth telling my mgr something eg I recognize the careless mistakes and I'm in the process of seeing tx to help?

What’s the best way to deal with a partner that prefers working solo? For context, this writer I work with conceptualizes by himself, emails the Account team, gives deep input, and makes decisions for us without consulting with me (his “partner”) most of the time. While I appreciate his proactiveness, I feel excluded, limited, and without much room to co-lead the work with him. I don’t know how to bring this up without sounding like I’m b*tching about it.

Did first set of redlines for a partner. Have ten years experience doing what this partner does but I am new to working with him. Said I did about a 7 out of 10 on that job. Not sure how to feel about that. What say you all? :) Keep in mind I asked for a 1 to 10 because I cannot talk to him about it for a week or so.

Worked with an agent on my first deal, great. Second deal now and I’m getting my license myself. I’d like to use her as a backboard for ideas and don’t mind giving her a “finders fee” or something but would like to capture the commissions myself. What would be the normal way to have this convo?
