I'm starting to think that open offices were designed by someone who hates productivity. How can anyone with ADHD get anything done with so much noise and movement? Anyone else think open offices should be banned?

100% do not like open concept. It's awful with adhd too. The reason we have it in our homes is so we can feel included and connect with one another socially. Offices need to be productive and social outings can be designated. Meetings will have more impact because they will carry more value…

The basic idea is quite old - originally every worker was supposed to have plenty of space, with buffers to block noise.

Of course, companies immediately started messing with the concept and crammed people together to save money on space 😑

Would you rather work in a cubicle. I thought working in a place like a conference room would be great because everyone can hear you. And you have move more space to move around to get your thoughts.

Being in cubicles is great for people with ADHD, but a lot of people feel closed in. There should be situations where it can be. Either part of the company has cubicles part of it is open concept to appeal to everyone.

I’m currently in the process of being converted from contractor to permanent. In my initial conversations I was under the impression that I was in a different pay grade and asked for a salary 25k higher than the max allotted for my position. I feel like it gave the impression that I don’t know what I’m doing. Any suggestion how I can recover from this?

Any tips for organizing a bedroom, closet, dresser & bathroom? My teen has IADHD, and low executive functioning. Her room looks like a land mine. Clean clothes are mixed in with dirty, her desk is a disaster, she won’t let go of clothes she’s outgrown, drawers are open with clothes hanging out. A therapist said to close her door if we don’t want to see it but it’s more than that. She needs this important life skill & I don’t know how to help. Easier to organize w/o her but that’s not a solution.

My boss assigns projects with unclear expectations and provides no guidance on how to achieve them.

I've asked for help, and, to avoid a long post, she expects me to figure it out. Perhaps you go through this too, but when I don't have a clear guide on completing big projects, it paralyzes me because I don't know where to start. On top of that, I have anxiety, so "it has to be perfect".

How do you approach projects when your boss plays the "guess what's in my head" game?

I have tried absolutely everything I can think of to limit distractions during the work day and none of it has worked. Anyone here struggle with drinking enough water every day? Growing up, I drank a lot of soda and fruit juices but since 2020, I’ve been trying to be one of those people who always has a water bottle. Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.
