My fellow ADHD professionals,
Have you told your employer about your ADHD diagnosis? If you have then how have it benefited you? If you haven’t then why do you think it was the right move not to tell? I’m contemplating if I should tell my employer or not.

Do you plan to ask for accommodations? If not, then no I wouldn’t recommend it. ADHD is one of those diagnoses that people have negative connotations about and will likely affect how your boss/colleagues/HR sees you, especially if your performance ever dips. Legally, an employer can’t fire you for it. But they can find other ways around it. I know firsthand. I will never tell another employer.

Agreed. There was a similar post about this and I said that I haven’t disclosed it and never would.

I disclosed at a company that on the face encourages mental health. However, my experience was that it impacted my review and feedback in a negative. I was told I needed to stop using it as a crutch.

I signed up today for a local virtual support group. I’m hoping it helps me in my journey.

It depends on where you work. My company touts their dedication to creating a workplace for everyone and recognizing disabilities. I told our HR department to ask if there were any available programs and to have a record of it internally. I haven’t told my boss bc I’m not asking for an accommodation and I don’t know what value telling him would bring for either of us.

Question is why would you want to?

Hello. I did not disclose it. I didn't feel the need to disclose such matters. If not specifically asked, I don't say anything.

There’s no excuse that by the age of 25 you have never tried therapy. I’m speaking directly to the demographic in this group who I’m sure over 95% of people in here are earning 6 figures. Key word: TRY. I understand it’s not for everyone but to have never even attempted seeking therapy is a injustice to yourself and the people around you.

I'm a cashier. We just got a new manager, and she's making things really hard for us. She starts work at 4:30am and leaves around 2:30pm, but she still expects us to stay until 6pm and work on the weekends! She gives us really long shifts and doesn't give us much time for breaks. And when we ask her about it, she gets mad.

I'm worried that if I speak up, she'll make my life even harder. I don't want to lose my job because of this—do you guys have any advice?

529 Plan VERSUS Prepaid

We live in Florida and currently have a Freshman in High School and a 16 month old. We hear from our friends and family with college bound children "I wish we would have done Florida PrePaid." After obviously ignoring this for years, we are finally trying to do it before "it's too late" for both children.

Does anyone have recommendations on which plan to go with for each child? I once did the pros and cons on a whiteboard and it seemed like 529 was better.

I recently got diagnosed with ADHD. I'm 31 and found this only because b school and post mba consulting job was/is much more challenging than anything I did before. What I'm confused about is that even as a teenager I could read entire books overnight. But the last two years of high school I started selectively zoning out and the problem has become worse since. I just realised it now. My doctor has suggested treating depression (I was also unaware of this) with Wellbutrin first (contd)

Currently unemployed, and looking at a job offer of around 62k base, small firm. Not my preferred choice but this is the first offer in three months. They also took a month to get me the offer with corona and internal restructuring. Two questions:
1) The contract doesn’t mention a notice period in the probation period. What’s a good way to ask? 2) If I manage to secure another offer between contract signing and start date, would this involve any financial liabilities?

Hi! I’m a young professional with less than 2 years experience, started a new job 1.5 months ago. I’m having quite some difficulties on balancing out my response time to tasks. While I act incredibly fast if not immediately with some, I sometimes take 1-2 weeks with couple of hours worthy ones. Sometimes I ignore, procrastinate or simply other more urgent things come up to increase the delay. Also I work with 3 managers in my team which doesn’t help with expectations nor guidance. Any tips pls?

So today was my first day on a stimulant (diagnosed as an adult), and everyone says its suppose to feel like *boom* magic, or normal (?) , I guess. Knowing that is figurative, what should I actually be expecting? I feel mostly the same, I think, though I came in and actually did started my work today. But I mean, somedays I do that...I just don't want to psyche myself out if I'm expecting too much. Or pscyhe myself in if I actually might not be experiencing what I should.

I just started meds yesterday and the change in my focus and attention to detail is mind blowing. My only concern is, just yesterday I had a tough feedback session with my manager around how I’m taking too long to complete my work, giving them anxiety around close deadlines. I’m new in the job (3 months in). Should I explain anything about my adhd to my manager or just wait for them to notice the change in me?
