I'm struggling to figure out my next move. I have been a pharmacist for 36 years. I was in retail for 25 years as a manager for a good part of that time. The last 11 year I worked at a compounding outsourcing facility where I thought I was going to retire from, but the place decided to close down. I would like to get back to work but I'm hesitant about going into retail again since its been 11 years and I feel it would be challenging to get back up to speed. What area should I try?

I was in a similar situation. Spent 13 years in retail then 7 years in long term care. 15 of those years I managed. I've now been a pharmacist 21 years and pursued a clinical pharmacist role for a large health care system in central Texas. Now almost 2 years into my role here I can say it is the best pharmacist position I've held. I can confidently say I have no desire to manage or be back in retail. In a clinical role you work closely with the Dr's and nurses to manage care of patients. The pay is better and my hours are 8am-4pm M-F working every 4th weekend. Someone with our level of experience typically starts at a good wage as well. I'm currently at 178k/year and the hospital has a 5% match on 401k.

As a pharmacist you are capable of learning anything, first of all. Next, you will pick it back up in a heartbeat. The worst part of the job is learning the system and
” to do what you know you want to do” on the system. At least for me.good luck!

That’s a tough spot to be in, but with 36 years of experience, you’ve got a lot to offer! Have you considered roles in hospital pharmacy, long-term care, or even consulting? Maybe something in regulatory affairs or compliance? Those could be good options that use your expertise without the retail stress.

Hello professional colleagues, What are the possible areas a pharmacist from Africa can get a job in the United States of America. I am fully licensed with good experience but not licensed in the United States of America. Pharmacist Ehiemere

Any experience with switching ADHD meds to improve sleep?

I have already stated my issues with relocating until after I have the offer signed and ready. The project is supposed to start on the 19th and I'm supposed to join before, or on that date. It's already coming up soon and I don't have the official offer so that I can confidently start the relocation process. Has anyone else recently dealt with this?

I see a therapist, and a psychiatrist, and am on medication, but I still have days where I wake up and I’m so depressed I can’t move. I am leaving retail pharmacy after 15 years. I am opening a 403b pharmacy for a FQHC. I don't believe that retail pharmacy will be able to sustain itself with patient costs skyrocketing. I think people will become enraged or indifferent enough to allow the federal government to take over healthcare. How many times do we see people getting free prescriptions via government coverage that drive better cars than we do?
