They are burnt out because they are spoiled. Make the transition if you can.
In-patient has its own struggles. But I will say it is 2000% better than any retail job out there. Once you make the transition, the job seems cushy and then you get normalized to all of the problems that are within the hospital pharmacy setting. I'm guilty of it as well, but I will say for sure, I'd quit pharmacy before I'd go back to the retail setting.
It always depends on where you are and what your role is. I currently love my roll as a clinical pharmacist and it just feels like the impact I’m making is worth it.
I was a pharmacy manager for a big chain and I work per diem inpatient. I’ve seen many of the staff pharmacist in the hospital burned out but coming from retail into hospital I found it not as stressful. Then again as a per diem I’m not living in it everyday so my experience is different. It all depends on management in my opinion
100000% better inpatient than outpatient any day. Absolutely do it if you can. There’s definitely issues still (technician shortage is still real in inpatient settings) but simply getting a lunch break and being able to sit down if needed makes a huge difference. Most hospitals also have shift differentials so it helps since inpatient usually pays less than outpatient.

I know a hospital pharmacist that was considering going back to LTC because she was bored at her current hospital. I reminded her that I was laid off from LTC - I think I’d rather he bored than worried about losing my job.
