Only go in-house if you are OK with your portfolio dying.
Usually your next employer.
If the ship goes down, you’re going with it. At least at an agency you can pivot to another client. Go somewhere with the most creative range.
Brand side tends to have a lot of lifers who can be… set in their ways. You’ll have to finesse your way onto the best projects. The best projects however are usually what agencies would call mid to bad. You and anyone else with agency bg maybe a bit lonely in knowing how to build great work and may experience a ton of pushback.
If you can, get yourself into a role where you’re leading the external agencies doing the actual fun work.
On the flip, brand side’s usually more chill, better perks, and the pay’s solid. But stability? Total illusion. Same as anywhere else.
So it really comes down to what you need in your life right now. Good book? Higher pay? Slower pace? Better WLB?
This is great thank you
Wish I knew more people at in house agencies cuz it’s slim pickings
making creative for internal purposes only kinda sucks
