Was previously in a hybrid strategy/account role, now in a dedicated strategy role. I didn’t love the account-y side of my job as much: client relations, PM, budget oversight, etc. The pro for me at the upper-middle management level (when I made this change) was getting to focus more more heavily in honing my craft and strategic acumen. For awhile, moving into a strategy role removed those account things I didn’t love from my plate, to an extent, though as I’ve moved into a leadership role those have re-entered my responsibility set.
I’m not certain how much salary was affected, but I can tell you I’m much happier with my remit as a strategist at this level vs what my account counterparts are responsible for at this level.
Thank you - very helpful.
Agree with everything D1 said.
Strategy is better but you have less accountability as an account person since you don’t actually make any work yourself.
So that is the one plus of being an account person for sure.
Because what you do affects the actual work.
