I'm wondering how easy it would be to transition back to accounting from a data/finance role. I was a CPA for many years (audit/FDD) and decided to give analytics a try. Long story short is it's not quite what I wanted it to be and I want to pivot back to accounting since it's more stable and can be less stressful. I'm a Manager currently at my firm, so do I have to take a step back, or are there consulting firms/companies that will still take me on? My CPA is inactive, but I can reactivate it.

Don’t do it, you left for a reason and best is to move on. I did the same and came back to accounting for a huge pay jump and I am applying after 9 month 😥

like

Agreed. I think my biggest obstacle is finding what exactly to pivot to because I have no idea what all is out there since I have only done accounting.

Quite possible, many finance accounting synergies.

Prepare for a pay cut though.

Thanks for the reply! I'm fine with a pay cut! I'm blessed to be in a position where money isn't the primary concern, so as long as it's not a halving, I should be fine. Do you know what firms are hiring right now and/or have any advice on how to spin my experience? I'm totally fine with even doing technical accounting as well and have wanted to try it for a while

Yes, dont do it!!! I feel the same here, after working six years in accounting, I found myself bored and wants to move on to data analytics / FP&A roles.

Would you be kind to share what the skills needed to your current role?.

What’s going on FB friends,

I am contemplating a move to industry working at a VC, Tax Director role east coast. Looks like it will be primarily overseeing compliance with some aspect of advising on structures etc. There is another tax reporting head above me.

The potential comp is the low 200k with a 10% bonus (still higher than what I am making). I feel this is pretty low for VC standards but maybe my standards are also too high. I have generally seen 25% bonus with carry.

Any thoughts?

If you make it to senior manager at big four can you leave and become partner or director at mid size firm? Is this hard to do? Also I got a long way to go before senior manager fyi.

Should you discuss salary range with an internal company recruiter prior to setting up an interview? With external recruiters it’s pretty easy to talk about the expected range. I am trying to avoid wasting all of our time if i get to the last interview and they are expecting a salary that is too low for me.
