To get a job at a vc firm, your probably also need your MBA from a top 15 ( at least) program
@EY1 that's not always true. Some people just get lucky. Knew a guy who audited a VC, made friends with the CEO and got offered a job.
@PwC definitely in some kind of investment role, as opposed to fund accounting
Yeah I was for sure planning on getting an MBA, just want to get the right experience beforehand so that I can hit the ground running afterwards. Thanks for the advice guys!
Advisory or VC are both better than FS audit.
Audit is good for 5-7 years experience. After that your growth curve really slows down (technical issues wise. Soft skills can be learned anywhere). Unless you want to be a partner there's really no point in staying much longer past that.
When you say get a job at a VC firm, do you mean get a job in some kind of "front office" capacity? I ask because if you're content with a CFO type role then FS audit is the place to be.
^probably need an MBA for that if you don't already have a foot in the diir
Gotcha. I've actually seen this done (directly from B4 to VC investment associate) a few times but in every case I think there was a lot of networking involved. I think advisory/banking would definitely give you a better shot of making that switch but even then it's not guaranteed. If you are looking for advisory though (like TS), I'd try to go somewhere outside an accounting firm so that you don't have to spend time doing audit support and hopefully can get more deal exposure.
Well if you don't want to just "get lucky", to be qualified for a vc role you need an MBA
^B4 experience should be enough to get you into a top program with a good GMAT. Good look!
