In general, is it a good idea to transfer Marriott points to united miles, assuming redemption is at value? I have a lot more Marriott points than I have miles, and want to use miles for a biz tix

You literally have no other points available? Credit cards, etc?

Nevermind, another option would have been to book the Business seats through a partner award program. You get the airline transfer bonus through Marriott, so if you don’t have any hotel redemptions coming up then it seems like the best way to go.

Just wondering on overall value... seems like I won’t get to spend all my Marriott points with the limited vacation time I have

What effective cents per point on the Marriott points are you looking at with the biz class redemption? Compare that to TPG valuations.

Makes sense in very limited scenarios. Recently there was a United promotion of 30% bonus. I transferred 180k points for ~100K points. Got a business class trip to Asia costing ~$2500 and a domestic round trip of $500K . In effect of ~1.6cpp almost twice TPG valuations.

It was well advertised

I recently transferred Marriott points to United as had to fill to buy a ticket. It's definitely a good option even with the base rate it you believe you won't use Marriott points and might have to buy tickets instead. Couple of notes: 1. It takes 2-9 days to transfer points. They are super slow even if you have best status 2. United gives 10% bonus for transfer above the general 10k additional miles for 60k points, so that's a good part. Though I transferred only the miles required to fill in as I hate united as it was significantly cheaper in miles than any other ticket. 3. Booking tickets with Miles on United might cost you $75 additional if it's within a week so plan ahead or account for that fee.

Do check out transfer to Alaska as well. Alaska has some amazing redemptions.

I’m not sure if they would have such meetings in the future so trying to decide what is best for myself and my family. What would you do?
