In real estate they say it's all about location, location, location. Is that true for jobs too? How much does location factor into which jobs you apply for and ultimately accept? I would have a hard time accepting a job that wasn't 100% remote now, but before I started working remote in 2018 I needed to be within a 10 minute drive of my kids.

It's very true. There aren't many people who can drop everything and move for work. I've got kids myself and am not going to uproot them when they're this young, so my job search is limited to a 30 mile radius.

like

30 miles is a big radius! For me it's 3-5. I'm not even joking. I live 2 miles from downtown.

I can't imagine considering a job without considering the location. It's just basic. I've always had to factor in my commuting, and I imagine most people do the same. Now that some people can work remotely I suppose location doesn't matter quite so much. If you're going to an office, however, the commute is so much a part of life that you can't ignore it.

like

When I was young and single I didn't consider it much at all. 45 minutes in the car was just more radio time. Now my time is way too valuable and traffic is 1000 times worse.

Looking for better WLB and fulfillment in my work, thinking that might be Public Sector work.

I found a company I was really excited about working at. I applied for the job and went through 5 rounds of interviews. At the end they said I was OVER qualified and they want me for a different position higher up in the company. I was super excited they then had me go through 5 more rounds, 3/5 people were the same. The interviews mostly went "didn't you get the job, I highly recommend you? I'll just put you down as a 10". After those were done they told me I was UNDER qualified. Can't win!
