In your opinion, how important is it to be perceived as always being online (available on teams or Skype)? Asking because I’ve noticed people commenting on a certain associate always being online at odd hours.

Same. Mine has to say offline for 100s of days at this point. Lol just email me.

This is really office dependent, but as anecdata, at my last big firm, it was not important at all. Some lawyers were always online, others were never online, and some were online but always away or busy. When a senior lawyer needs something, they don't care what your online status is if you are actually responsive when they reach out.

like

I’ve found it’s more important to other juniors who think they’re in charge of you. As a first year I worked with a second and third year who tracked when I was online religiously. It was so damn annoying. If you need me, email me, and I’ll get it done. Stop judging me for going out to dinner on a Friday night.

Partners and senior associates never cared at all. I always got my work done and was incredibly responsive, even if it was just a “will do” email sent from my phone.

funnylike

Agree with comments that it depends on the firm/group. I would hope that people are making comments because they are concerned about associates that are online at odd hours (ie worried about burnout). That’s what I’m thinking when I’m online at 10pm on a Sunday because I procrastinated and then see more junior associates are also online.

It’s not really useful to pretend to be online if ppl can’t actually get ahold of you, but I know there are plenty of idiots out there that think you need to be strapped to your desk at all times so I don’t blame anyone who has to try.

Hi! Can someone recommend a source for learning how do simple, fun music lessons on Zoom? I teach first grade and use music for my transitions. I would also like to play songs for them with my guitar, but am concerned it won’t sound good on zoom (the guitar, not my voice, which is bad, we established that long ago)

Congrats to team Zoom Zoom on winning the Fish Bowl F1 fantasy league!

I’ve been at a job for a few months and hate it - partners set unrealistic deadlines, micromanage, and create work that truly is not necessary/push urgency when there is no real urgency. I had other offers prior to accepting this job that may still be options, and going back to my old job (for a pay cut) might also be an option. I can’t tell if this is just burnout, growing pains, or just an untenable work environment. Would you ride it out for a year at new job or pursue other options? HELP!
