I'm kind of in a similar boat. I have a project going on the side with some friends and I just get so tired from "the work that pays the bills" that my passion for my passion project is waning. I haven't even thought about it in weeks which is sad because it was something I was so excited about at one point.
I’m getting to the point too where I wish I was getting paid to work on it, I spend more time on it in a week than I do my actual job haha. I think that you should see it through. What’s been keeping me going is the fact that if I stop, I will have wasted so much time, and an idea I was very passionate about getting out of my brain will be lost. I just wish I could speed the process up.
Absolutely. I spent almost a year on a personal project. Wanted to give up (and briefly did) many times. At the end of the day, I knew it deserved to be finished. Even if I wished I’d have done this or that, I am happy I saw it through, and it’s a great way to learn how to do a future project.
It was a collection of short stories. I have considered including it just to show the project management aspect. I’m still considering whether to publish and try to earn some funds for it, bit of imposter syndrome is holding me back I think.
Hi there. You go trough so many stuff, life stuff while making a film, personal or professionally, that will never change, so keep it up. Small burst everyday and a clear path towards the goal is key, minimize distractions, not just social media, but in general, noise comming from your own emotions, comparing yourself with other artist or finished projects, etc, You will finish yours if you keep at it, So, yes, planning is key. Get used to fall in love and not liking your project stages, is normal, is our brain doing it's thing. Also, do not wait until is finish to do connections, share it with people, do presentations, connections is also important, and even more when you finish it as you should organize a screening, NOT online, a real one plus festivals and stuff. Try to team up with younger producers, as you may do this alone, getting out there and find the money for your next movie is something you need help for. I made my first animated shortfilm back in 2009, it was hard, as I was alone, but I stick to it and when finished, it did not changed my life right away, but after keep showing it around it did, but I did not stop there tough, hehe, you can do it : https://vimeo.com/207942623?fl=pl&fe=sh
