From past experience, it is almost never worth mulling over why you didn’t get a job. Never worth the cycle of self criticism or blame game. Learn what you believe are the 1/2 takeaways and move on. Jobs don’t get offered for a multitude of reasons and hiring managers are coached to offer canned responses if questioned (Source: I was a Director in the industry prior to consulting and made ~50+ hiring decisions).
Shit happens for a reason. Move on to better things.
Thank you for the insightful responses! I think I actually feel better!
Passed all my interviews with a Big4 and got the go ahead. Something happened and the offer was never made and still said I'm "perfect" for the role. Looking back I'm glad it didn't happen since it put me on a much better path.
A week later I got the rejection email. When I reached out for feedback the Director said the interviews went very well but they decided to make some changes to the role. I checked recently and it’s still open and still the same description.
Couple things bothering me are whether the Director was honest with me, and why I didn’t get the job if she said I was perfect. And also the role is still not filled.
Something doesn’t add up
Director probably lied. Seriously people are awful.
Sometimes companies don't give honest feedback because it's hr/company policy. I think it sucks and unnecessary, but screw em. Go find something even better.
Be cautious Abbott has external recruitment partners that are not aligned with business. They also are gatekeepets and lack follow up with candidates. Talent team delays communication and even if you get into a role movement internally is stalled. Abbott seeks and values external experience and not invested in SME or service.
Luck / bias are two reasons people get or don’t get jobs. It’s humans that evaluate you with a process that’s rarely repeated, measured or calibrated. I wouldn’t think too much about it.
