I’ve downgraded people who interviewed for M but never upgraded. Things you’ll need to demonstrate at a minimum as a M:
- you can coherently explain complex topics on a simple manner
- ideally consulting project management experience, I.e. been able translate vague client asks, build something from scratch that is useful and meets the brief
- you have extensive experience managing teams
- you have a technical skill (in addition to the above)
- you have good relationships with senior stakeholders that could bring on sales

Manager is all about showing you are “ready made” to lead client engagements in the topic area, I think.
SC have a lot of skills, are independent and can progress large chunks of a project independently but couldn’t take on an end to end engagement delivery
Chief
Do you really understand manager's role and did you already take partially the role while being SC?
If you are manager ready, you will be able to clearly explain the role, examples, challenges, and think long term in client's and team's development.
The 2 big steps in consulting are maanger and Partner. Skills required are not just a continuation of previous roles, but a different mindset.
I was not the best SC, but I am consistently above peers as manager.
My colleague was a phenomenal SC, and struggles as manager.
Ask the recruiter what's the difference and then cater your interview answers around that
