I would say “I’m not confident in the future of my current agency based on some of the actions as of late. I’m looking to move to an organization where I see a clear future and a unique position in the market.” Or something like that
Yes! It’s honest and direct and that’s so rare. @SP1 I think OP is referring to giving this answer to prospective employer, not current one.
"Growth" basically sums 👆🏻 this up too
How about, "I'm looking to pursue some different opportunities, and I'm particularly interested in (insert what you'd like from a company/job here)."
While some might find your truth refreshing, others might ask, "Hmm. So is this person going to be jumping ship the first time we lose an account?"
And signalling desperation for any job that floats puts you in a more difficult negotiating position.
Yes to most of the comments here. Be smart about this. Never blurt out what you think on the outside and think about what the other person is looking for or would feel, if you unloaded your "truth", aka frustration on them. The question is meant to see/screen motivated professional people not deadbeats or grumpers:) "Clientize" what comes out of your mouth based on the gist of what you're actually feeling
Why would you tell your current job that you’re looking for a new one?
You wouldn't. Recruiters (when interviewing) ask why you're looking to make a move all the time.
@SAD1, totally makes sense. But what are your thoughts if I've been at my current agency less than a year?
Surely you can think of something else. Tailor it to the agency/recruiter you're talking to.
Talking to a digital shop: tell them your shop is too traditional and you're hungry for more digital work, etc
