Is a public accounting without a busy season possible? (I.e. Can a firm make money and stay competitive while hiring enough talent that only works 40 hours a week all year round?)

If Trump can make it this far in an election anything is possible

like

I worked that much overtime this past month.

like

It seems like it could be possible if a firm strategically selected industries and clients so that work is steady through the year, and then hire enough people to do the work.

like

I think the SEC deadlines make it near impossible to do this. It clients had more than 60 days to file the 10-K I could see this being more feasible. You can only have so many people working on certain areas before its inefficient and cost ineffective

like

A lot of the larger firms already do that. They call it a flexible work options.

like

We have seasonals for tax busy season in compliance. They make more money then we do! Sweet overtime... 💵💵💵

like

It's certainly possible

I worked only about 120 hours of OT this past year

Probably only if they hired temp employees for the busy parts to keep hours down. But if they can pay you the same salary and you work those hours as them paying you and a temp to work the over 40 part, they lose money. And they know it.

Ya, I have also thought of the idea of having a workplace where the best talent who leave to raise their kids can come back during busy season part-time to shoulder the burden of the other year-round staff. I am sure a lot of stay at home parents would love that opportunity.

Switch to federal advisory....it's possible and no travel too

Yes; it is called consulting or internal audits

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

How do you tell if your managing partner is invested in your success? I feel like my managing partner couldn’t care less about my development, career, or success. They hardly ever speak to me and are not really doing anything to show me the ropes in a new practice area I undertook for this job. I am not in a position to leave due to past short stints, and things are not horrible, just want to tackle this feeling of abandonment.

I spent 2 years as an SE at my current company and was offered a job at the same company to lead our tech partnerships. I was pumped about the role and increased my OTE by 20%.

After 4 months, the culture of this team is entirely different than sales. My manager micromanages me, is out of touch, and threatened me for having passion projects outside of work.

Do I stick it out and deal with the anxiety, move on from the company I love, or take an AE job that is on the table and blow it up?

HELP! Company wants me to move to the US for a Remote role - Is this reasonable? Hi, I'm moving through the stages for a Remote US role as a Canadian candidate. They mentioned if I were to be offered, expectation is I'd move to the US. I find this odd as the role is Remote but guess it's legal purposes. Good thing is, this comp also has a Canandian office BUT they said bringing me on through the Canadian office is not smth they do.

Is this reasonable?? How can i best negotiate? Thx!

As my title indicates, I'm both a product and a privacy counsel at my tech co. The product is consumer-facing and deals w/ privacy issues, so lots of overlap. I'm relatively junior, and currently am in the position of being able to commit to one path or the other. Anyone been here before and have thoughts on career progression for the two tracks?

My work priorities, in order: WLB; predictability; $$$; interesting work

Any advice as to how to help my other-half (who has bouts of anxiety and depression) apply to jobs? He’s going through a particularly rough patch at the moment. We had a big chat the other day which was great! However, even if we agreed that I’m doing everything I can for him (his words) it has to come from him (which we both agreed). He’s having a real mental block (I think with writing cover letters mostly) he describes staring at the screen feeling incapable. Any suggestions?
