I only know one person who is certified and it made no difference in her career. Most attorneys have no idea what the certification is. I wouldn’t bother.
This ^
It doesn't really matter about being certified. It's all about years of experience as a paralegal.
Oh my good this is super true!
No. Attorneys don't even understand the difference between a certificate and being certified. Look at job posts and you'll see what I mean.
Ex:
"Requirements:
An ABA certified paralegal"
There is literally no such thing 🤦🏼♀️
I completely disagree.
Most of the larger firms know what a Certified Paralegal is and will pay more for one. Some require it. It signals that you are serious about your profession and are willing to educate yourself to advance in your career. There are yearly CLE requirements to maintain your certification and opportunities to get advanced certification in specific fields.
I decided to go that route because I started my career later than most and I wanted to stand out. It has worked out great and I now make six figures.
At one time I would have said no, but IF you learn to be sharper, smarter, faster, more knowledgeable at your work as a paralegal then by all means DO IT!
